Integrability, Duality and Strings †
After the two years ago work of Seiberg and Witten [1, 2], the Pandora box of string theory has been opened once more. The magic opening word has been duality. A web of exciting interrelated results it contains has appeared during the last months: string-string duality (U duality) [3]; the physical interpretation of the conifold singularity [4]; heterotic-type II dual pairs [3, 5, 6, 7, 8]; R-R...
متن کاملCharge-swapping Q balls.
Q balls are nontopological solitonic solutions to a wide class of field theories that possess global symmetries. Here we show that in these same theories there also exists a tower of novel composite Q-ball solutions where, within one composite Q ball, positive and negative charges coexist and swap at a frequency lower than the natural frequency of an individual Q ball. These charge-swapping Q b...
متن کاملSmall Q balls
We develop an adequate description of non-topological solitons with a small charge, for which the thin-wall approximation is not valid. There is no classical lower limit on the charge of a stable Q-ball. We examine the parameters of these small-charge solitons and discuss the limits of applicability of the semilcassical approximation. ∗ email address: [email protected] Non-topological solito...
متن کاملNoncommutative Q - balls
We obtain Q-ball solutions in noncommutative scalar field theory with a global U(1) invariance. The Q-ball solutions are shown to be classically and quantum mechanically stable. We also find that “excited Q-ball” states exist for some class of scalar potentials, which are classically stable in the large noncommutativity limit.
